At the denouement of the Battle for the Imperial Capital, the curtain for the Great Disaster rises. As those who died in the Sacred Vollachia Empire continue to pile up and rise, Vincent Vollachia issues an order to retreat to the northwestern Fortified City of Garkla. Meanwhile, Subaru, his allies, and his enemy, Todd Fang, retreat from Lupugana together. Along the way, they eliminate numerous undead beings, dubbed "zombies", until a betrayal occurs, causing Emilia and Rem to intervene with the situation. After Subaru loses consciousness, he awakes in a dragon carriage leaving the Imperial Capital, finding himself face-to-face with his friends in the Emilia Camp, the Pleiades Battalion, and Vincent, the man who once called himself Abel. After resolving the discrepancies in their relationship, they and their allies begin working towards ending the destruction caused by the undead army and its commander.
